Iran is witnessing uproar, unlike anything seen before, as Cristiano Ronaldo and his Al Nassr team drew a huge crowd of passionate fans in Tehran. The popular footballer was given a grand welcome, fit for any Persian King! 

Fans sounded cheers of joy and excitement as the star forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, stepped off the bus. Cristiano Ronald’s warm reception in Tehran is surely a breath of fresh air for the Islamic Republic which has been gripped by protests for more than a year. 

Banners with Arabic and Persian calligraphy and English welcomed FC Al Nassr and its star players like Sadio Mane, Otavio and Anderson Talisca among others. 

The club had to cancel training because thousands of fans had gathered to catch a glimpse of Cristiano Ronaldo. Cristiano Ronaldo went out of his way to fulfill the dream of a young boy who cried after the security prevented him from meeting his idol earlier in the day. 

New Beginning for Iran

Al Nassr kicking off the Asian Champions League against Persepolis may just be what Iran desperately needed to get back up. Moreover, this match can be described as new beginnings for Iran as it’s the first visit by a Saudi club, in this case Al Nassr, since 2016. Football clubs of both countries played against each other last in the 2015 Asian Champions League. 

This is also a first for Cristiano Ronaldo visit to Iran with Al Nassr and he was gifted a magnificent Persian carpet. Praises for CR and Al Nassr reflect the growing popularity of Saudi football clubs across Asia and the Middle East. 

Persepolis Club says Cristiano Ronaldo created a historic day. “It was a truly wonderful day welcoming Al Nassr and his legendary player, due to his overwhelming popularity in Iran. fans had been waiting for this moment for a long time to see him in person. 

Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr Players Surprised

Meanwhile, Al Nassr players expressed surprise at the “warm” welcome and love showered upon them in Iran. Abdulrahman Ghareeb described the reception as beautiful. “Honestly, I was surprised with what I saw. It’s honestly very beautiful to see people arriving from everywhere supporting al Nassr.”

Saudi Arabia and Iran restored diplomatic relations earlier this year thanks to China.
