Qatar’s emerging athletics star Ismael Doudai Abakar has officially qualified for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo after a brilliant victory at the Meeting International de Marseille in France. Abakar came across the finish line in 48.49 seconds in the 400m hurdles, setting a new meet record and has done enough to qualify, by just one hundredth of a second, for the global competition. The entry standard for the global meet was 48.50 seconds. His performance in France suggests that he is in fantastic form, having improved on his previous timing of 48.75 seconds at last month’s Ostrava meet. Abakar’s qualification also increases the Qatari contingent heading to the Championships in Tokyo from 13 – 21 September.
