UAE recently introduced Visa on Arrival (VOA) for Indian nationals. It is one of the most convenient entry methods for Indian citizens in the UAE. This scheme allows Indian nationals who meet the qualifications to get a visa upon arrival. Qualifying passengers may instead obtain a visa at the airport with only a single day of wait.
But many travellers incorrectly think that this makes them eligible with an Indian passport and a valid US, UK or Schengen visa. In fact, airlines and UAE immigration officials make a thorough check of documents, and if there are even small errors, you may be denied boarding or entry into the UAE.
1. Your Supporting Visa Must Also Have 6 Months of Validity
For your Supporting visa to be valid on arrival, it needs to be accompanied by a six-month validity period.
Most travellers are aware that their passport must have at least 6 months expiration. What a lot of people are overlooking is that the foreign visa or residence permit that is necessary to get the VOA must also qualify under them.
It is advisable that in the case of a US visa, Green Card, UK residence permit or Schengen residence permit, it should be valid for a minimum of six months from the date of entry to Dubai.
However, if a visa is issued to a person for say four or five months then he can travel to other countries, but not be eligible for UAE’s Visa on Arrival scheme.
2. Carry Printed Copies of Your Travel Documents
Even though Dubai is a very digital-dominated city, there are times where paperwork is important when it comes to immigration counters.
Students travelling should always have a printout of confirmed return ticket and Arrival Lodging information. A visa validity is provided and Immigration Officers could require documents in support of one’s intent to exit the UAE within the rest of the valid visa.
When staying in a hotel, pack the hotel confirmation. In the case of a family or friends’ accommodation, bring a printed invitation letter which includes the address and contact number of the host. Relying exclusively on mobile captures may cause a delay in guarantees of your course.
3. Check Your Passport Name Format
Errors in the name and surname section of the passport are a frequent problem that travellers encounter when undergoing UAE immigration.
In order to be able to use a Visa on Arrival, the passport must show at least two names, a given name and a family name. Passports or ID cards with a single name only that do not include a family name in the latter field may not be valid for use under the VOA system.
Those who travel with a single-name passport are usually advised to apply for a normal tourist visa prior to travel instead of taking up a Visa on Arrival visa.
4. Don’t Forget Travel Health Insurance
Travel insurance has become an even more critical document for short-term visitors today, when it comes to international travel.
Your declared policy should include treatment and repatriation expenses for emergencies as well as treatment and repatriation, if any, for travel to and from the UAE. It’s advisable to have a hard copy of the insurance policy on hand; immigration officials might require it when they look at documents.
Important VOA Facts for 2026
Visa on Arrival is available to eligible Indians who can get a 14th day visitor’s permit on arrival in UAE. Depending on the airport, the visa fee will cost you about AED 100 plus taxes and processing fees.
A permit can generally be renewed for a 14 day period before a total of 28 days.
Before you leave for the airport, try checking these four papers to verify. Minutes of preparation can go a long way for making Dubai vacation failure-free rather than at the departure gate.
