Etihad Rail is a much-needed project at the time. It has the potential to connect all 7 emirates, and also bring the UAE and Oman much closer in the near future. Currently, the tracks in place only offer freight services. The passenger service is going to be introduced soon.
Once upon, the number of passengers is expected to reach 36.5 million annually. The maximum speed the passenger trains are going to run at is 200 kmph. It is certainly less than the speed you might have experienced in some other countries such as China and Germany.
But the Etihad Rail passenger service is going to take comfort immensely seriously. There are going to be different seating segments to choose from, such as first class, business class and economy. Every train is going to seat more than 400 passengers.
Exact date of the start of Etihad Rail operations
The 900-km-long Etihad Rail passenger train is set to connect 11 cities across the seven emirates in the UAE. Commute times are going to be reduced by 30% to 40% compared to other modes of transportation available at the moment.
Officials from the national rail company have been tight-lipped about the exact date of start of operations. It is recommended to remain patient as the passenger service is going to become a milestone exercise, changing the travel landscape for many people.
The Oman Etihad Rail is also being designed. It’s a major step in the direction of better GCC connectivity. The train is going to be fast enough to dramatically reduce travel durations. Keep an eye out for more updates.
