GCC Secretary-General Discuss Strategic Partnership With Yemen

Jasem Albudaiwi, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), embarked on a significant journey to Yemen’s interim capital, Aden.
This visit marks the first time a GCC leader has set foot in Yemen in nearly eight years. The focus of this monumental visit was firmly set on strengthening the strategic partnership between the GCC and Yemen.
During his time in Aden, Albudaiwi held an important meeting with Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, the head of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council (PLC).
Their meeting took place at the Presidential Palace in Aden and was centered around discussions to strengthen the strategic alliance between the GCC and Yemen.
Dr. Al-Alimi provided Albudaiwi and his relevant team with comprehensive updates on Yemen’s recent developments. These updates included insights into the interventions led by Saudi Arabia.
These efforts aim to renew a ceasefire and pave the way for an all-encompassing political process. The ultimate goal is to usher in an era of peace, stability, and development for Yemen.
Additionally, Dr. Al-Alimi shed light on the myriad challenges that Yemen faces, including infringements by Houthi militias and their support for terrorist organizations.
He stressed the imperative need for both regional and international pressure to alleviate the protracted humanitarian crisis gripping Yemen.
Dr. Al-Alimi expressed heartfelt gratitude to the GCC for its steadfast support of Yemen’s constitutional legitimacy.
The GCC’s unwavering dedication to helping Yemen confront threats to its identity and national economy, particularly in the aftermath of the coup by Iran-backed Houthi militias, was also commended.
Albudaiwi reiterated the GCC’s unequivocal support for UN-led efforts to achieve comprehensive peace in Yemen.
These efforts are rooted in three key references:
- The Gulf Initiative and its executive mechanism.
- The outcomes of the National Dialogue.
- UN Security Council Resolution 2216.
Furthermore, Albudaiwi emphasized the importance of implementing the remaining provisions of the Riyadh Agreement. This is a pivotal step in ensuring Yemen’s stability and continued progress.
Albudaiwi lauded the dedicated efforts of Saudi Arabia and Oman in safeguarding Yemen’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and independence.
He emphasized the unwavering commitment of GCC countries to bolstering Yemen’s PLC in its pursuit of security and stability.
This visit underscored the paramount importance of the strategic partnership between the GCC and Yemen. It reaffirmed their joint commitment to fostering peace and stability in the region.
