UAE Welcomes Agreement on Disarmament in the Gaza Strip, Calls for Lasting Peace
The UAE welcomed the announcement of finally breaking the deadlock and ending the continuous conflict going on in the Gaza Strip, after signing an agreement on the downgrade of the armament of Hamas and other militias. The UAE MoFA said it was encouraged by the development and it could contribute to “facilitating regional security, stability, and conferring opportunities for a sustainable political process.
The UAE thanked the U.S President Donald Trump “for his efforts to support the accord”, and commended the mediation efforts provided by Qatar, Egypt and Türkiye. The joint diplomatic efforts of these countries facilitated an understanding between the parties concerned, according to the Ministry.
The Ministry said it is looking forward to the agreement that will see Israeli soldiers withdraw from Gaza, establish an international stabilization force alongside a new Palestinian police, and the partial disarmament process carried out in stages will help alleviate civilian sufferings and rebuild the Gaza Strip. The UAE also emphasized the need to facilitate the safe delivery of humanitarian aid to Palestinian people in a timely, expeditious and unhindered fashion.
The UAE restated its support for regional and international initiatives for deescalation and a “just and comprehensive peace”. The functioning of a viable political process coupled with a durable political settlement based on the two-state solution continues to be crucial for long-term security, stability and prosperity in the region.
