Kuwait Reaffirms Regional Security Role at Arab-US Summit

The presence of the Amir’s representative, Owais al-Qattan, who also represented the Amir at a high-level meeting with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, was a major highlight during his presentation of the invitation.

This meeting saw Gulf, Arab and Islamic country leaders and heads of delegations reviewing key security and political issues relating to the region on 22 September 2026.

Regional Security Takes Centre Stage

At the summit, top corporate executives discussed the urgent security issues in the Middle East. Kuwait stressed cooperation with international partners and how to alleviate tensions in the region.

The talks additionally touched on strikes impacting on member states in the region, demonstrating concern with the broader circumstances of security in the region and the need for coordinated diplomatic action.

Maritime Security and Global Energy Supplies

Another was the safety and freedom of waterway usage along strategic international waterways. In the GCC countries, and particularly Kuwait, safe shipping lanes are intertwined with trade and oil transportation, as well as overall economic security.

The summit also discussed the risks to global energy security, highlighting the linkage of regional security with international interest.

In the summit, it was reiterated that strategic partnership and further coordination between Arab countries and America is important.

Participants stressed the need for cooperation with Washington to enhance the security in the region and the world at large, to facilitate immediate de-escalation and to map out a comprehensive and just peace outlook, said the Kuwait’s Crown Prince Diwan.

Wider Diplomatic Engagement in New York

Kuwait’s relations with the US were not limited to the summit of the Arab nations and the US. As part of his trip to the UNGA 81, Sheikh Sabah Khaled met with a number of leaders around the globe including the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and the President of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, for bilateral talks.

Kuwait also discussed the development of bilateral cooperation, regional issues, and measures for developing diplomatic and economic cooperation at the NY meeting.
