Dhofar Khareef 2026 road safety rules

Every year, the Khareef season offers a weather enchantment in Oman’s Dhofar Governorate, making it one of the most popular travel spots in the Gulf. Hundreds of thousands of visitors come to visit from Oman and the other GCC nations during the cool times when the mountains are green, the waterfalls are striking and the mist hangs in the air. Along with this summer’s tourist pressure, new policies and programs have been implemented to guarantee that visitors have a safe, responsible and “green” experience.

In support of that, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has officially launched the “Your Path is Green” initiative. The programme is a joint effort of Awasr Company and other partners that will work with public awareness raising to create a smart digital solution to ensure tourist safety and safeguarding the unique natural environment of Dhofar.

What Is the “Your Path is Green” Initiative?

Sheikh Dr. Said bin Humaid Al Harthi, Wali of Salalah, officially inaugurated the campaign at Al Baleed Archaeological Park which is located in Salalah.

In contrast to traditional tourist campaigns that are primarily brochure marketing campaigns and printed guides, “Your Path is Green” initiative is a digital communication, smart alerts, interactive teaching, and conservation campaign all within the one presentation, all added to the visiting experience.

The goal is not just to make travel easier but also curb the number of accidents that take place and help keep Dhofar’s delicate ecosystems like they are at all times in an often busy Khareef season.

Smart Digital Alerts for Safer Travel

The programme is one of the most innovative ones on eng cross because it takes advantage of digital infrastructure to give real-time guidance.

Visitors will be made aware of current conditions and other travel hazards in real-time. The alerts are useful for motorists to inform their decisions while going through mountain roads or through coastal routes due to rapidly changing Khareef weather.

The authorities have urged tourists to make sure to carefully read authorities’ official messages and not solely rely on third parties’ weather apps.

Road Safety Rules Every Visitor Should Follow

There are a lot of differences in the driving aspect during Khareef and the rest of the year. People in the car should slow down as fog reduces visibility and follow other guidelines for distance from vehicles.

Overtaking on mountain roads should be avoided unless absolutely necessary. The driver also should turn on headlights when visibility is inadequate and take time to make sure his/her car is properly serviced before a long-distance trip.

Temporary road closures and warning signs from local authorities should never be ignored – they are put in place to ensure safety by preventing accidents as a result of flooding or landslides.

Respect Protected Green Areas

The green valleys and the mountain slopes in Dhofarare one of the most valuable nature resources in Oman.

Tourists are urged to stick to the walkways and not drive off the beaten track into sensitive areas with a natural mass of plants. Any activities that damage plants, destroy natural materials or disturb wildlife negatively impact the Region’s fragile biosystems.

Maintaining these landscapes will help protect landscapes and allow future generations to enjoy the same natural beauty.

Help Keep Tourist Sites Clean

Conservation of the environment is again one of the main concerns of initiative.

When disposing of trash, it must be in appropriate waste disposal containers, and should never be abandoned on beaches, park grounds, waterfalls or archaeological sites. All plastic bottles, food packing etc. should be removed at all times prior to leaving recreational areas.

Many small steps can add up to a big positive impact where Dhofar’s environment is concerned if it’s done by individual visitors.

Interactive Heritage and Cultural Experiences

The campaign goes beyond just safety messages to encourage visits to Oman’s immersive cultural heritage.

A number of guided field excursions, educational programs and media events are planned in key monuments, such as Al Baleed Archaeological Park, and others. These trips will enable visitors to gain a deeper knowledge of Dhofar’s history and promote responsible tourist practices.

Why Responsible Tourism Matters?

Khareef puts increasing pressure on the roads, public facilities and natural attractions because of its increasing popularity.

Respecting the Official and taking environmental measures, visitors help to ensure a safer travel environment and can help Oman achieve its tourism sustainability goals in the long term as part of the country’s development plan.
