Kuwait Fund Provides $2.1 Million to Aid Displaced Families in Yemen

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has entered into a $2.1 million grant agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to provide housing rehabilitation to displaced families in Yemen. The agreement signed on 13th March 2025 is to assist displaced families who have been affected by Yemen’s conflict. The project will cover materials, equipment and labor to restore homes that were destroyed by the conflict and will benefit an estimated 670 families.

Walid Al-Bahar, KFAED Acting Director-General stressed that the agreement reflects Kuwait’s dedication to assisting Yemen’s people, who are still suffering from a humanitarian crisis. Yemen is one of the world’s most intricate humanitarian crises with more than four million displaced people, 40% of the population without proper housing.

Nisreen Rubaian, Representative of the UNHCR to Kuwait emphasized the pressing need for the assistance, as several displaced persons struggle with poor living conditions in their damaged homes. This grant is the eighth collaboration between KFAED and UNHCR with Kuwait donating approximately $24 million since 2016 towards the support of seven prior humanitarian projects.

KFAED continues to support fund development projects and offer assistance to conflict affected countries, affirming Kuwait’s position in international humanitarian action.
