New Kuwait Labor Rule: Employers Must Pay Salaries Before 7th of Every Month

Kuwait’s Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) has issued a new instruction to all employers to pay salaries to workers no later than the seventh day of every month. The directive aims mainly to reinforce the proceedings for the protection of wages and compliance with labour requirements with authorities warning that whoever violates the rulings shall be subject to prosecution in accordance with the labour law approved in the country. 

As part of its bigger awareness campaign, the PAM has seen this as an emphasis particularly on the companies operating with government contracts. The campaign will make sure payments to workers and that any payments lagging behind their target dates will be treated as a legal offence.

Apart from giving emphasis to wage protection, the campaign also mentions labor housing standards. An employer must have a first aid room with a licensed nurse within the employer’s facilities with more than 200 workers. The use of labor housing for non-residential purposes is strictly forbidden and food storage must conform to health and safety regulations. 

In a firm stance on labor rights, the Kuwaiti government urges employers to comply with the new laws or risk being fined.
