Islamic New Year (7 July 2024)

Ashura (15-16 July 2024)
Bahrain is the only Gulf country that celebrates Ashura as a public holiday. The 10th day of Muharram is celebrated as Ashura Day in Bahrain. Ashura Day is celebrated in Bahrain. On this day, Prophet Moses freed the Israelites from the Egyptians. The word Ashura means “Ashura” in Arabic but Muslim scholars disagree on the reason for the name. A dish is served on this day called Ashura which consists of grains and dry fruits.
Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (15 September 2024)
Also known as Milad al-Nabi (Birthday of the Prophet), this day is celebrated as a public holiday in most countries. It celebrates the birth anniversary of the founder of Islam and the author of the Quran. Since the Islamic calendar is based on lunar cycles, the date of this holiday may vary from country to country. This festival is celebrated with religious lectures and teachings of the Quran. The teachings of the Quran helped establish one of the world’s most famous religions, Islam.
National Day (16-17 December 2024)
The National Day in Bahrain is celebrated on the 16th of December and lasts for two days. The day is celebrated to commemorate the victory of former ruler Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa. The celebration of National Day includes street parades, cultural events, cultural festivals, fireworks, exhibitions, etc. It is the time when the government announces its new projects for the coming year. In addition, many streets are decorated with beautiful flowers.
