UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed received HE Felix Tshisekedi, the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi on Monday. The leaders addressed a number of issues and developments of mutual concern, according to WAM.
They also discussed progress in advancing bilateral relations across all fields, particularly in diversifying and promoting investments in development, economic, investment, trade, renewable energy and other areas that serve the common interests of both nations.
UAE President congratulates Tshisekedi on re-election
The meeting follows a telephone call His Highness had on January 27 with President Tshisekedi, that involved reviewing bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for further collaboration to advance the sustainable development ambitions of both countries and their citizens.
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed congratulated Tshisekedi on his re-election as president during last December’s elections, wishing him continued success in leading his country and fulfilling the aspirations of its people, according to The Print.
The President of DR Congo thanked his UAE counterpart for the warm sentiments and reaffirmed his commitment to collaboratively strengthen and develop his country’s relations with the Emirates in ways that mutually benefit both nations.
Tshisekedi got re-elected for a second term after receiving more than 73% of the vote in a December 20 poll, the country’s election commission CENI said, as per CNN. He had obtained over 13 million votes out of over 18 million valid votes.
Revealing the results in the capital Kinshasa, the head of CENI said the turnout was more than 43%. Cheers erupted from Tshisekedi’s supporters present at the declaration after Denis Kadima declared that the 60-year-old was provisionally elected.
