Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, has said that the UAE’s first female astronaut is ready for space missions. Sheikh Hamdan has lauded the UAE’s space exploration plans for 2024.
The Crown Prince of Dubai said that Mohammed Al Mulla, an Emirati astronaut and a candidate in the second batch of the UAE Astronaut Programme, and Nora Al Matrooshi, an Emirati engineer and astronaut, would embark on “trailblazing space missions” after graduation in 2024.
Who is UAE’s first female astronaut ready for space missions?
Nora Al Matrooshi is the UAE’s first female astronaut. She is from Sharjah, the third-most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The UAE’s first female astronaut completed her graduation in Mechanical Engineering from the United Arab Emirates University. She also received training from the Vaasa University of Applied Sciences in Finland, a Northern European country.
In 2021, Nora Al Matrooshi was selected to train with the prestigious NASA Astronaut Group. She was selected alongside Mohammed Al-Mulla to work as an international mission specialist.
After completing her NASA Astronaut Group training, Nora Al Matrooshi joined the second batch of candidates for the UAE Astronaut Programme at Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, a government organization in the UAE working on various space satellite projects.
After graduating from the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre in 2024, she will be ready for space missions. In 2024, she will become the UAE’s first female astronaut to go into space.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed lauded Nora Al Matrooshi for achieving great success. He said, “The next phase of our journey will see groundbreaking Emirati space ventures.” He further added, “We seek to raise the UAE’s stature in the global space industry with exceptional projects.”

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed wrote on X, previously Twitter, “By 2024, Mohammed Al Mulla and Nora Al Matrooshi will embark on trailblazing space missions.”
The UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, also lauded Nora Al Matrooshi.
