Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted an invitation to inaugurate the largest Hindu temple in the UAE in February, the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha said. Representatives of the organisation met the leader at his residence in New Delhi and extended the invitation.
“Delighted by this gesture, Prime Minister Modi graciously accepted the invitation, expressing his enthusiastic support for the historic and iconic temple,” the BAPS Sanstha noted. The almost hour-long meeting touched on the significance of the temple for global harmony.
Celebration of unity, spirituality and community
The BAPS delegation prayed for Modi’s health and acknowledged his exceptional global achievements, notably bolstering relationships with the UAE and other countries in the Middle East, a statement from the organisation highlighted.
Designed to resemble a blossoming lotus flower, the BAPS Hindu Mandir is an architectural marvel. The project transcends borders and celebrates unity, spirituality and community in the heart of the Emirates.
The temple being built just outside of the capital Abu Dhabi is expected to attract millions of devotees to the country. It will incorporate intricately designed pink sandstone and marble facade with seven spires that represent each of the emirates of the country.
BAPS Hindu Mandir project represents global collaboration
In 2015, during the Indian Prime Minister’s UAE trip, the emirate allocated more than 17 acres of land for the temple project on the Dubai-Abu Dhabi highway. The foundation stone for the massive mandir was laid by Modi in 2017.
The project represents an international collaboration as skilled artisans in India are crafting carvings and statues for the temple. More than 50,000 individuals have laid bricks in the construction of the mandir, including Indian actors Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Dutt.
