Weekend Weather Guide for UAE’s Main Cities: What Haze Means for Flights and Outdoor Plans
Hazy Skies Ahead: Overview for Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah
The hazy weather is anticipated through fog, dust, and high humidity this weekend (January 17-18, 2026) in the major cities of the UAE. Dubai expects light winds with (10-15 km/h) with a visibility that reduces to 2-4km in the early mornings. Abu Dhabi is a reflection of this as it has temperatures between 18-25 °C and Sharjah can experience a little lower temperatures of 16 °C. There is no significant rainfall, and the haze continues until the middle of the day. for more news updates, visit our Gulf Independent News page.
Flight Disruptions: Delays at DXB, AUH, and SHJ
There are frequent flight delays or diversions at Dubai International Airport (DXB), Abu Dhabi (AUH) and Sharjah (SHJ) due to haze. Weather under visibility of 5 km triggers ground holds- check the apps of Emirates, Etihad, or Air Arabia to get real-time updates. In January last year, 20 per cent of DXB flights were delayed by 30 minutes or more after being hit by similar haze.
Outdoor Plans: Safety Tips for Beachgoers and Hikers
Restrict early-morning jogs or Hatta hikes; the air quality (AQI 100-150, unhealthy in sensitive groups) is decreased by haze. Choose afternoons and be hydrated and wear masks. In-house options: Dubai Mall events or Yas Island malls. Monitor NCM app for alerts.
