UAE Set to Strengthen Role in BRICS at India Summit
The UAE has readiness to boost its economic and trade relations with BRICS in BRICS 18th Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13. Since 2024, the UAE has been an active member of the BRICS.
The UAE delegation to be attending the high-level event includes the country’s Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as the nation grows more involved with the powerful economic alliance.
BRICS Offers Major Economic Opportunities
The economic scale of BRICS places emphasis on the significance of its inclusion in the UAE. The BRICS nations account for about 49.5 % of the global population, nearly 40 % of global GDP and about 26 % of global trade.
GEM is considered as an economic opening and diversification initiative in the UAE. It also allows for further exploration of corridors of trade and investment, business cooperation with EMDEs, etc.
UAE-BRICS Trade Reaches New Heights
Since the UAE’s entry to BRICS, there has been a sizable growth in economic relations. In 2025, non-oil foreign trade with the two sides hit $312 billion, up from $243 billion in 2024, which represented a 28.5 % increase.
Non-oil foreign trade with BRICS countries accounted for approximately 31 % of the total non-oil foreign trade of UAE, representing 34 % of imports, 23 % of non-oil exports and 28 % of re-exports.
UAE Seeks Deeper Economic Integration
The New Delhi summit is also an opportunity for the UAE to further boost its engagement with economic and financial initiatives of BRICS. The country plans to foster equity within the economy and enhance bonds with developing markets.
As the UAE’s trade and investment continues to grow, more cooperation within the BRICS may contribute to the UAE’s diversification strategy and sustainable long-term growth.
