When Do UAE Schools Close for Summer Holidays? Final 2026 Academic Calendar Dates

While families start to make holiday plans, school students are excited about the coming summer holidays, many parents are trying to find the official UAE schools summer holiday schedule. The UAE Ministry of Education and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority have issued the final academic calendar for 2026 that offers a clear academic calendar for schools with various curriculums.

There are different kinds of curriculum schools in India and Pakistan; most schools follow the September to May academic year system, but these schools follow the start of the academic year in April. This recognition of these differences can assist families to make plans for holiday, trips and activities that will not incur disruption to the academic year.

Summer Holidays for September-Start Schools

Most schools in the UAE operate on the standard School/University September to August program including the country’s British, American, International Baccalaureate (IB) and Ministry of Education curriculums.

At the end of June, students will take their last classes and then go into a summer break that will last for about eight weeks.

Additionally, many schools will also be having a half-day the day before they officially close for the summer.

Summer Break for April-Start Schools

Curriculums based on the Indian and Pakistani systems of education follow a different academic year, starting in April as opposed to September.

Academic building structure being different, these schools will be closed from 6th July and reopen at the end of August for a mid-year break. The summer break starts from 29th June, 2026 and classes resume from 31st August, 2026.

Many families with children in various curricula can travel together during the summer with this co-ordinated holiday schedule.

KHDA and MoE Minimum Academic Day Requirement

In the UAE private schools have a bit of “wiggle room” in designing their school calendars. They have however one important regulatory requirement they must meet.

By the official KHDA and Ministry of Education guidelines, each school shall be required to conduct a minimum of 182 instructional days throughout the school year.

This implies that any curriculum which is adopted by any private school and their internal scheduling must not be complete before the 26th of June 2026, no matter what it is.
