HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, President of UAE, attended the opening session of the COP29 Global Leaders Climate Action Summit in Baku on Tuesday, reiterating his country’s commitment to building a climate resilient future for all.
The COP29 climate conference is running through next Friday. On the occasion of his participation in the Summit, His Highness noted the UAE’s deep-rooted commitment to the principles of sustainable development.
UAE President meets other delegation heads at COP29
Mohamed bin Zayed highlighted that this dedication led to the UAE’s hosting of the COP28 Summit in 2023. The country championed global cooperation to offer a great response to the first Global Stocktake assessing progress on Paris agreement goals.
His Highness framed climate action as an opportunity for progress, instead of a burden, noting that the historic UAE Consensus reached at COP28 confirmed a shared global commitment to ensure a responsible and rational clean energy transition.
On the sidelines of the Summit, the UAE President also met other delegation heads, discussing bilateral relations and the important role of the COP29 Summit in enhancing international cooperation and accelerating efforts to effectively address the climate crisis.
Clean energy, sustainability, climate action: In focus
In Baku, the UAE President held separate meetings on Tuesday ith Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, President of Mauritania, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey, Victor Orban, Prime Minister of Hungary, and other delegation heads.
Mohamed bin Zayed discussed partnerships in different fields of mutual interest, such as clean energy, sustainability and climate action. The meetings also discussed objectives of the COP29 Summit, stressing the need for ongoing partnerships and global cooperation.
