UAE Helps Women and Children in Chad Affected by Sudan Crisis

This is even though the UAE had offered more assistance to refugees escaping from the fighting in Sudan to Chad. It is targeting the female and the children who are the most vulnerable in the society. The UAE is donating $10.25 million to United Nations (UN) groups. This money will help in different ways: 

1. $3 million to World Health Organization for moms and kids

2. $2 million for women’s health programs to UNPF

3. $250000 to the World Food Program for food

4. $3 million to assist refugee women to have aptitude with local women

5. $2 million to women’s groups for their communities.

UAE Leaders Visit Chad

Some of the important personalities from the UAE visited Chad on the 13th of September 2024. Some wished to know the current situation and others wanted to interact with women who had to flee Sudan. They also got in touch with people from Chad’s government as well as the United Nations.

The UAE team discussed places where refugees receive assistance among which is a hospital constructed by the UAE. Many people have fled to Chad from Sudan – more than 630 thousand since April of this year. Most of these are women and children. The UAE has no intention of leaving these people neglected and, therefore, needs to help them.

The minister from the UAE Reem Al Hashimy stated that they would like to improve people’s lives now and in the future as well.

Another UAE leader Lana Nusseibeh said they are keen to hear what is required by women in terms of power. He asked her what she believes women have to do with making peace in Sudan and she promptly answered.

What Leaders of the United Nations Are Praising

Leaders from different UN groups thanked the UAE for its help:

– This money according to the World Health Organization will enable them to cater to mothers and children.

– UN Women said the money will go to support local women’s organizations that are already assisting refugees.

– The UN Population Fund said they will utilize the money to assist those women who have been affected or those who are pregnant.

– The UN Refugee Agency said this money will help refugees not only to exist but to thrive.

UAE’s Big Help So Far

Since the fighting in Sudan started, the UAE has given a lot of help:

– They overall have given $230 million.

– They sent 159 planes full of food and medical supplies.

– During a large conference in Paris in April of 2024 they pledged an additional one hundred million of course.

This new help proves that the UAE needs to continue helping those who had to flee their homes due to the conflict in Sudan.
