In a significant development, Saudi Arabia has released stringent guidelines for the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage, introducing measures aimed at ensuring the safety, well-being, and seamless experience of pilgrims.
The new guidelines, designed to address evolving global circumstances, mark a departure from traditional practices and underscore the Kingdom’s commitment to prioritizing the health and comfort of Hajj participants.
The pilgrimage is the fifth pillar of the Islamic faith. Muslims who are financially and physically capable of making this trip are advised to do so at least once in their lifetime.
The new guidelines will help streamline the journeys to avoid complaints, according to Mr. Zakariya Kyewalyanga, the executive director of the Uganda Bureau of Hajj Affairs, who announced the certification of companies taking Muslims for the Hajj on Monday.
He also said “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has removed the role of travel agencies in catering for registering, booking, and paying for Hajj packages, accommodation, and permits to streamline the Hajj activity. It will be managed by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj,”
Mr Kyewalyanga said the Saudi kingdom also warned the pilgrims against carrying huge amounts of money and valuable items.
“We urge pilgrims to avoid coming with large amounts of cash anc expensive items because they take a lot of time to be verified yet number of pilgrims entering the country is very huge,” the Saudi kingdom stated.
The kingdom also urged certified companies to send accommodation fees early to avoid last-minute clearance. And they also concluded with the statement who will fail to fullfill the requirement will not be allowed to operate.
Strategic Measures for Pilgrim Safety:
The 2024 Hajj guidelines focus on strategic measures to enhance the safety of pilgrims, taking into account global health considerations. With the backdrop of the ongoing pandemic and other potential challenges, Saudi Arabia is proactively adapting its approach to ensure a secure and smooth pilgrimage experience.
