The 2025 Qatar Grand Prix was held under the floodlights of Lusail International Circuit which proved to be an exciting race filled with drama, action and a moment of worry as Marc Marquez took a commanding victory and reigning world champion Jorge Martin had a painful crash.
Marquez Claims Two Victories
Marc Marquez continued his strong form in 2025 with a near perfect outing in Qatar where he took the win in both the Sprint race and the Grand Prix. The Ducati rider was able to come through an early race contact with brother Alex Marquez and then fend off a laterace charge from KTM’s Maverick Vinales to win the 22 lap race. Marquez’s Grand Prix win in Lusail was his first Grand Prix win at the circuit since 2014 and his third race win of the year. Combined with his undefeated record in the sprints, the Spaniard leads the world championship standings with a total of 123 points.
The Qatar GP took a troublesome turn when Jorge Martin departed from the race on lap 14 at Turn 12. The reigning world champion who just made his return from injury after not racing in the first three rounds was transferred to a hospital where he was notified of a pneumothorax. The Aprilia rider needed suction drainage to relieve swelling in his chest and it remains unclear how long he will be sidelined. Martin placed 16th in the Sprint and was noticeably struggling with physical discomfort prior to the crash. An absence of Martin will be a serious dent in his title defense.
Absolute heartbreak
Sending our best wishes to our Champ @88jorgemartin on his recovery after this one

Maverick Vinales appeared ready to steal the show for KTM Tech3 after taking the lead in the first half of the race. However, a mistake at Turn 6 allowed Marquez to take it back again, although that was only the beginning of his troubles as following the race an inspection identified that his tyre pressures were below the legal minimum. He would receive a 16 second penalty, dropping him from second place to a distant 14th. With the Vinales penalty, it handed Franco Morbidelli his first podium of the season. The Gresini Ducati rider had been briefly leading after the Marquez-Alex incident and he was able to be consistent after that and finish in third place.
