Suhail al-Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, recently highlighted the UAE’s notable plans to invest up to Dh200 billion to address sustainable energy demand over the next six years. He made the remarks on the occasion of the launch of a key energy event.
Stressing that the UAE serves as a model for an ambitious and practical transition to clean energy sources, the Minister noted that the Gulf state has made significant contributions to clean energy projects in operation and others under development.
UAE President extends Year of Sustainability
Suhail al-Mazrouei further mentioned that the UAE’s efforts to increase reliance on clean energy sources to diversify the energy mix substantially support the country’s objective of reducing carbon intensity in its oil and gas operations by an extra 25% over the next decade.
Earlier this year, UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed announced that the Year of Sustainability has been extended into 2024, reflecting his commitment to protect and preserve the environment for the benefit of future generations.
This year’s campaign is an open invitation to all people residing in the Emirates to adopt sustainable practices. This inclusive approach encourages active participation and fosters a sense of shared responsibility.
The UAE hosted the COP28 Summit last year, convening thousands of people from across the globe. The climate conference achieved notable success on its first day itself as participants agreed to operationalise the landmark Loss and Damage Fund.
UAE taking confident steps for its clean energy goals
In October 2024, Suhail al-Mazrouei noted in a post on X that the UAE is a “global pioneer” in the adoption of clean energy technologies, given its massive investments in solar and nuclear energy and its commitment to implementing sustainable solutions.
The UAE is taking confident steps to support its clean energy objectives, guided by the UAE Energy Strategy 2050. This strategy seeks to meticulously balance supply and demand and environmental obligations for a better economic environment.
