There is soon going to be a new ice rink in Dubai and that has got everyone talking. Slated to open in November 2024, this 20 million Dhs is likely to become the first professional ice skating rink in the Middle East. This rink is different from other rinks wherein this is exclusively for serious athletes on the ice.
But why is it so special? As in the international competitions, the ice remains dangerously cold that it could easily freeze a man within a matter of few minutes. This means skaters and hockey players can train and compete at their best with top-class world-class gyms. It is infinitely larger compared to previous rinks or ice-skating facilities such as the one in Dubai Mall: these are not cold.
A Place for Everyone: From Pros to Beginners
While the new rink is built for professionals, anyone can use it! Here’s what you can expect:
- Space for 526 people to watch events
- Ice hockey matches
- Figure skating competitions
- Even e-sports events!
The rink will be in Dubai Sports City, near the Emirates Sports Hotel. It’s been carefully planned for three years by the Emirates Sports Group.
Growing Ice Sports in the UAE
Vladimir Burdun, who runs Emirates Sports and used to lead the Emirates Ice Hockey League, explains why this rink is so important:
“We want to make ice sports more professional in the Middle East. Until now, we didn’t have the right places to train. This new rink will help players practice more and get better.”
The big goal is to get more young people interested in ice sports. With this new rink, kids can start skating and playing hockey earlier. This could help the UAE develop great skaters and hockey players in the future.
Why It’s Better Than Other Rinks
- The ice is much colder (16-18 degrees Celsius), just like in professional rinks around the world
- It’s designed specifically for ice sports, not just for fun
- There’s more space for training and competitions
- It will host real league games and tournaments
This new ice rink is exciting for both sports fans and anyone who wants to try skating. It shows that Dubai is serious about growing ice sports and giving athletes a world-class place to train.
