Kuwait Grants Full Employment Rights to Female Workers Who Lost Citizenship

Kuwait has authorized a groundbreaking decision guaranteeing that female government employees who had their citizenship withdrawn under Article (8) of the nationality law will remain entitled to their full employment benefits. The Civil Service Bureau said affected employees will continue to receive their salaries, bonuses and allowances including maternity leave, annual leave and sick leave as applicable under civil service rules and regulations.

Furthermore, these employees will still have access to promotions, pay increases and bonuses. They will continue to be eligible for learning leave and scholarships previously established in conjunction with their citizenship. Of note, professionals will still be barred from promotional opportunities and assignments abroad as non-Kuwaitis.

This choice supports job security and keeps affected worker’s financial stability while also reinforcing Kuwait’s commitment to labor rights. Maintaining benefits and protections will allow these employees to have continued public sector employment and to avoid disruption. This decision signals Kuwait’s continued balancing of legal policies of employment with workplace stability and social welfare.
