Emmys 2023 likely postponed to January due to Hollywood strikes
The Emmy Awards were originally slated to be telecast on September 18. But with the raging writers and actors strike in Hollywood deepening the disruption of scores of shows and movies, telecast for the highest honours in television is likely to be rescheduled to January next year.
While Variety first reported on Thursday that vendors of the ceremony have been informed of an imminent date change, but not given an exact date, the LA Times quoted an unnamed source as saying Fox was planning to reschedule the telecast date to January.
Even the January 2024 date relied on a resolution of disputes before then, the news agency mentioned. Hollywood actors joined film and television writers in a historic strike earlier this month after talks with studios broke down.
Strikes Could Affect Creative Arts Emmy Too
If the ceremony actually gets postponed, it will be the first time since 2001 when the deadly 9/11 attacks and eventual military action rescheduled the awards to November. Compared to the previous ones, a smaller-than-usual telecast was held that particular year.

Nominations for this year’s Emmys were announced just a couple of weeks back, with The White Lotus, Succession, Ted Lasso, and The Last of Us topping the list. But this dropped 48 hours before the dual work stoppage was announced.
The ongoing industrial action could also affect the Creative Arts Emmy, which was originally slated to take place on September 9 and 10. The awards are known to honour artistic and technical achievements in television.
