Emirates Airlines and Flydubai have suspended some of the flights to Bangladesh. This happened amidst the massive protests in South Asian countries over government jobs. Thousands of people hit the streets to protest against the government over the lack of employment opportunities.
What’s happening with the Flights?
• Emirates cancelled five flights between Dubai and Dhaka on 5 and 6 August.
• They will not permit passengers to travel to Dhaka if they are going to change flights elsewhere.
• Flydubai suspended flights to Dhaka and Chittagong until August 7.
• Other airlines, including Air India and IndiGo, also cancelled their flights to Bangladesh.
Why Are People Protesting?
The citizens of Bangladesh are furious with the system of government jobs. They think that it is not transparent. This led to huge street protests.
Changes in Bangladesh’s Government
Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned from her key post. Now the army has taken the mantle of forming an interim government, to sort the country out, until the situation gets better.
