Dubai Humanitarian facilitates transport of critical supplies for Sudanese people
Under the guidance of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Humanitarian (DXB-H) has facilitated the transport of urgent relief supplies to Chad to support more than 70,000 Sudanese people.
In an effort to quickly alleviate the suffering of scores of people in the conflict-hit country, a Boeing 747 cargo flight departed from the UAE on Saturday, carrying 90 metric tonnes of essential medical supplies, shelter materials and relief items.
Unflinching support for Sudan from Dubai’s leadership
Giuseppe Saba, CEO and Board Member of Dubai Humanitarian, said their ability to mobilise and deliver aid quickly is a testament to the strong partnerships and unflinching support from the leadership of Dubai, stressing their ongoing efforts to support vulnerable people.
The World Health Organisation is delivering 37 metric tonnes of life-saving infusions to treat thousands in need of immediate medical help. The airlift to Sudan’s neighbour Chad facilitated by DXB-H is vital to overcoming logistics challenges.
In response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan, the UNHCR is also delivering 53 metric tonnes of critical relief supplies through Dubai Humanitarian. The airlift can assist people in the Darfur region displaced by heavy floods and already hit by famine.
UAE is a committed humanitarian partner in Sudan
The cost of the latest relief airlift amounts to Dh1.48 million. It has been fully funded by Dubai Humanitarian’s Global Humanitarian Impact Fund. This fund is dedicated to supporting critical humanitarian missions from Dubai to different countries.
The UAE is a committed humanitarian partner in Sudan. Besides allocating funds to alleviate people’s sufferings, the Gulf country has also been regularly reiterating its call on the Sudanese parties fighting each other to agree to an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
