The Northern Governor Ali bin Abdul Hussain Al Asfoor greeted Dr. Asad Hafeez who served as the Acting WHO Representative in Bahrain to explore health partnership ventures across the region. The high-level gathering on Friday reviewed the development of the Healthy Cities Programme since A’ali gained its successful accreditation status from the Governorate. During the meeting Governor Al Asfoor affirmed his commitment to advance all areas of the Northern Governorate into becoming a “healthy governorate” that follows the principle of “Health for All by All.”

The organizations worked together to discover new ways for engaging communities with health services that support Bahrain’s health development program. Dr. Hafeez appreciated the Governorate’s health programs and agreed to promote them through different platforms with WHO support. The organization dedicated itself to continuous partnership work for meeting development targets and enhancing health results in Bahrain’s populations.

The Governor discussed numerous health programs:

  • The “Biggest Loser” weight loss competition ran nine times in a row to fight smoking addiction and weight problems
  • Staff of the Governorate launched strategic mosquito management programs throughout the territory.
  • Regular observation and participation in global health awareness events
