People in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will no longer be able to share Netflix passwords outside their homes from 20 July, 2023.

Netflix’s password-sharing crackdown has reached the UAE. A customer service representative said that the restriction on password sharing took effect today.

A customer service representative told the Khaleej Times, “Now, only members living in the same house can share passwords and use the same account.”

The restrictions on Netflix’s password sharing were previously implemented in over 100 countries across the world, including the US, Britain, France, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Mexico, and Brazil.

According to reports, Netflix now permits users to add an additional member from outside their household for an additional monthly fee. Paid users can transfer a person’s profile while maintaining viewing history and personalized recommendations to make the process smoother.

Earlier this year, Netflix announced it was launching its crackdown on illicit password sharing to the United States. Customers in the US were not allowed to share their logins with friends and family outside their households.

Netflix said in an email to US consumers, “Your Netflix account is for you and the people you live with in your household.”

Netflix also imposed restrictions on Indian users. On July 20, Netflix told them that their account was only for them and members of their household.

Netflix wrote in a new blog post to Indian users, “We will be sending this email to members who are sharing Netflix outside their household in India. A Netflix account is for use by one household.”

In May this year, Netflix said it was regulating its password-sharing feature for users. Netflix also encouraged profile owners to change their password or sign out of all devices.

Netflix users in the UAE can also receive an email informing them of the crackdown.
