China Oman Ties Reach a ‘New Historical Starting Point’, Xi Says
China-Oman ties have come in a period of “new historical starting point” as Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed it with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik in Beijing. Xi, at the Great Hall of the People, described greater cooperation as a “shared strategic choice” by both nations, indicating they plan to expand long-standing diplomatic and economic ties.
China Oman Ties Mark a New Diplomatic Chapter
The discussions occurred at the meeting of the heads of state of the two nations during Sultan Haitham’s state visit to China, which was his first-ever visit to China since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1978. President Xi underscored decades of diplomatic and historical ties and long historical seagoing trade ties. The visit serves as a chance to push up a contrario level of bilateral coordination regarding political relations, regional security and trade.
China Oman Ties Focus on Energy and Economic Cooperation
Cooperation in the energy and economic sectors continues to be significant. Oman is an important source of crude oil to China, its leading energy consumer. Both countries are interested in strengthening economic integration by cooperating in the fields of green energy, infrastructure, high-tech production, supply chains, etc. including cooperation in the Duqm Special Economic Zone.
China Oman Ties Support Strategic Investment
The key collaborative fields considered are attempts to link to Oman economic development priorities motivated by China’s investment and industry capability. Apart from energy, business-to-business partnerships between the two countries are planned in the fields of infrastructure, as well as manufacturing. The visit also establishes a basis for taking measures for closer coordination of economic areas in the future.
China Oman Ties Extend to Regional and Global Cooperation
In addition to trade and investment, Xi and Sultan Haitham discussed cooperation under various multilateral frameworks. They discussed common goals related to security, stability, and sustainable development in the Indo-Pacific and Middle East regions. During the meeting, bilateral engagement was once again strengthened and cooperation regarding broader issues in the region and internationally was expanded.
