Washing of the Holy Kaaba Today: Live Streaming Schedules and Central Makkah Traffic Advisories for Visitors
The Holy Kaaba in Makkah is getting ready for ceremonial washing that will occur today on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 – 15 Muharram 1448 AH as it is one of the holiest traditions ever observed of Islam throughout the year. The event is organized by the Governor of Makkah on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud under the supervision of top officials, diplomats and representatives of the General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques.
It’s an annual ritual, following centuries-old prophetic tradition and marking purification, reverence and ongoing care of the holiest site of Islam. The ceremony draws the attention of millions of Muslims around the world on television and thousands of pilgrims around the Grand Mosque Masjid-e-Nobbah every year.
A Sacred Cleansing Following Historic Tradition
The washing is a well planned process where the cleansing solution is specially formulated to be used in a ritualistic washing. Mix blessed Zamzam water (15 litres), plus premium Taif rose water (15 litres), rose oil (15 litres) and pure Oud oil (100 millilitres).
It’s an aromatic mixture that is dipped in white cotton and silk cloth and used to softly clean the interior walls and marble pillars of the Kaaba. When the washing is done, the sacred building is thus perfumed with pure musk and the incense, so that the interior is fragrant by a unique scent which has been part of this esteemed tradition.
Where to Watch the Holy Kaaba Washing Live?
The millions of Muslim believers who are unable to be in Makkah can still observe the ceremony with the official live broadcasts that were broadcast over various media outlets in Saudi Arabia.
Immediately after, the Fajr Prayer scholars from Saudi Al Ekhbariya TV and Quran TV then started providing continuous live transmission with special programs and commentaries. The ceremony is also being broadcast live on the official website of the General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques’s YouTube channel so that anyone in the world can follow each stage of the ceremony online.
The main procedures of cleaning, fragrant inwards and perfuming are expected to be done between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM (Makkah time). Highlight media of Saudi TV will continue to show worldwide until now and documentaries will be shown.
Traffic Restrictions Around the Grand Mosque
The festival is a large event, with many people participating and many dignitaries attending, so authorities have taken measures to manage traffic throughout Makkah’s central area.
Private cars have been blocked from the First Ring Road that encircles the Grand Mosque. So far, only those few vehicles belonging to public transportation services, emergency services, and official government motorcades are allowed to access the event in order to facilitate the smooth transit necessary for the ceremony.
The tolling of motorists is also expected to be high on Ibrahim Al-Khalil Street and Ajyad Road as the streets are being closed to provide relief to the Haram area.
Park-and-Ride Services Recommended
People who intend to undertake the rituals of Umrah today, or visit the Grand Mosque, are highly encouraged to take advantage of special park-and-ride facilities, rather than driving straight into Makkah’s center.
The authorities have urged pilgrims to park at Kudai, Al-Shuhada and Prince Mitib car parks from where they can be safely transported to the Haram via the shuttle buses frequently provided there. The utilization of these services can greatly decrease the congestion and travel delays all over the city.
Mataf Access During the Ceremony
There are also restrictions on visitors to the Grand Mosque. The area on the ground level around the Holy Kaaba, where the ground is being washed, is being well managed during the process of washing down the inside of the Kaaba.
If the pilgrims want to do Tawaf, they can continue this tawaf in the upper level of Mataf that is considered working, the whole time Tawaf is being done. Security is on autopilot, guiding worshipers to facilitate traffic and ensure their safety around the sacred place.
Advice for Pilgrims Visiting Today
Users are advised to factor in more travel time before visiting the Grand Mosque, obey measures taken by the security personnel and take public transport wherever possible.
Visitors who are pilgrims are also reminded to follow instructions for the movement of crowds, parking and shuttle services available and follow the official instructions to ensure that their trip to this one of the most important religious events of the Islamic calendar is smooth and safe.
