This new batch of items is aimed at catering to a new lifestyle that relies on freelancing, remote working, and completing projects as part of one’s employment, in Dubai and the UAE in general. These new regulations offer a legal route to teaching online, weekend shifts, and establishing a side line-based business.

In today’s UAE, there are now three big categories of side jobs and freelance jobs. It is crucial to select the right one as non-compliant work might result in penalties of up to AED 50,000.

Why is the NOC Still Important?
The No Objection Certificate (NOC) is one the biggest requirements for the 2026 system. All employees are required to secure a written permission from their main employer, before taking up any second work.
You must also get approval from your family member sponsor if you are being sponsored by family member(s). A ‘Silent Approval’ mechanism is available, however, for certain high-skilled categories, MOHRE has introduced this feature. The system can automatically approve the same if there is no reply from the employer in 14 days.
With this update, experts still advise to use a physical NOC to eliminate the possibility of disputes and delays in processing in the future.

How to Apply for the UAE Flexible Work Permit?

This action is now completely digitalized and can in some cases be quickly carried out in 48 hours. For that, applicants would need to find a side-job opportunity as the secondary employer makes the request via the MOHRE Smart App or Tas’heel service centers.
Then the employers upload the Applicant’s passport photograph, the Emirates ID, the Applicant’s visa and the NOC documents. The new verification system with AI technology checks the files immediately, helping to minimize waiting periods.
Candidates are then taken next to the payment phase. The Application Fees are AED 100 and the Approval Fees are AED 500. The charges are to be paid for by the employer, and not by the worker, according to the UAE law.

Having side jobs to make some extra money is beneficial but legal side jobs carry more significance. If a worker has been granted a permit, they have a right to be covered by UAE labour laws, and may be entitled to pro-rata bonuses and benefits including leave and gratuity, depending on the length of time the worker has been with the company.
