Ramadan 2025: New School Schedules Implemented Across Saudi Arabia
To align with the observances in the month of Ramadan in 2025, the Ministry of Education in Saudi Arabia has announced revised school timings. The third term of the academic year is expected to begin on March 2nd 2025, just about a day after the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan which is likely to commence around March 1st 2025 and this is subsequent to the lunar sighting.
During Ramadan both public and private schools will operate shorter hours to accommodate student’s observations of fasting and prayers. Historically, classes have one shortened day to five hours on average from 10 am to 3 pm. Although nothing has so far been confirmed regarding the exact times for 2025 similar adjustments are expected to be made.
Beyond this, the Ministry has traditionally provided such guidelines to ensure fasting students are exempted from hard physical activities such as physical education classes when requested. Students are usually expected to have some arrangements made regarding their homework and examination preparations in recognition of their fasting.
Celebrating the end of Ramadan, the Eid Al-Fitr public holiday is expected to fall within March 30 to April 2nd 2025. Schools are to be closed within this period and will resume sessions on April 6th 2025. Parents and students are advised not to trust these dates and schedules until there is an official word on the matter from the Ministry of Education.
