Earlier this month, UAE citizens became eligible to register for the US Global Entry Programme. It is aimed at enabling Emiratis to move more easily through US airports and, simultaneously, further enhance UAE-US bilateral relations and trade numbers.
The UAE is one of 23 partner countries eligible to apply for membership. Global Entry is a US-run programme that expedites customs checks on arrival at US airports for pre-approved travellers. The scheme is making safe, secure travel more accessible.
The UAE and US share deep diplomatic and economic relations. Emirati leader HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed visited the US in his first official visit since assuming the UAE Presidency. The trip further cemented bilateral relations for both countries.
UAE joins Global Entry Programme in big move
The Global Entry Programme screens the security background of applicants before travel, letting members immediately check in at a Global Entry kiosk at US airports. Nonetheless, it is necessary that all participants still have a valid US visa.
People need to create an account online and deposit a non-refundable application fee of $100. In the later stage of the process, they need to bring a valid passport and one other form of identification to an in-person meeting.
The application-vetting process usually happens in 14 days after sending an application. Once accepted, the Global Entry membership lasts five years. During this time, selected Emirati citizens can simply glide through the US airports’ customs checks.
