During a media briefing at Dubai Humanitarian alongside international relief organisations, HE Reem al-Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, emphasised the UAE’s commitment to supporting the brotherly Lebanese people and providing aid.
The prominent ‘Uae Stands With Lebanon’ campaign started on October 8. It is yet another testament to the Gulf state’s unflinching support for Lebanon. It has been initiated by Emirati leader HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed.
The campaign is set to run until October 21 and involves the community, institutions, and both government and private entities. It embodies the UAE’s determination to harness all its capabilities and provide all the essential support to those in need in Lebanon.
Emirati leadership introduces ‘Uae Stands With Lebanon’
In light of the ongoing humanitarian campaign, the UAE recently dispatched an aircraft transporting 37 tonnes of provisions for the Lebanese people. The aircraft marks the 9th flight of relief aid dispatched to Lebanon as the Middle East crisis rages on.
Reem al-Hashimy noted that this aid is part of the steadfast vision of the UAE leadership, after the directives of HH Sheikh Mohamed, to provide an urgent response to Lebanon’s challenging humanitarian circumstances, and consolidate global peace and stability.
Since the launch of the ‘Uae Stands With Lebanon’ campaign, the total amount of humanitarian aid delivered to the country has reached 375 tonnes in food, medical and shelter supplies, besides children’s provisions, as per official media reports.
UAE consistently supporting Lebanon during times of crisis
On September 30, the UAE President directed the provision of $100 million in humanitarian relief packages to support the Lebanese people. His Highness also allocated $30 million of urgent aid for displaced Lebanese refugees in Syria.
Both the leadership and people of the UAE have consistently stood by Lebanon during times of crisis. For example, the Gulf state became one of the first countries to support the Lebanese people during the COVID pandemic.
The UAE also quickly responded to the devastating Beirut port explosion in 2020. It is one of Lebanon’s most significant humantarian crises. The blast resulted in thousands of casualties. But the UAE soon announced the provision of urgent relief aid.
