Beyond2020: UAE-led Initiative Provides Clean Water To 10,000 Vietnamese

In an effort to reduce incidence of waterborne diseases and enhance overall health, the UAE has provided safe and clean drinking water to 10,000 people in rural communities in Vietnam.

Beyond2020, a humanitarian drive supported by local and international governments, was launched by the Zayed Sustainability Prize to offer life-transforming solutions to the vulnerable.

The initiative offers critical solutions to those in need in remote areas around the world. It has positively affected eight countries and benefited the lives of about 110,000 people so far.

Deploying Fountains In Countries Lacking Access To Clean Drinking Water

The campaign in Vietnam saw Beyond2020 installing eight water filtration systems to serve five villages and three schools in the Quang Nam Province of the Asian country.

It’s being led by Agier Ensemble Foundation in France, a Zayed Sustainability Prize finalist that developed the promising and ingenious Safe Water Cube.

Its aim is to raise private and government funding to deploy fountains in countries that lack access to clean drinking water, with citizens compelled to adopt unhygienic practices.

UAE and Vietnam Sharing “Unwavering Resolve To Promote Innovative Solutions”

One fountain can provide clean water to a village with a population of up to 1,000, helping pump 1,000 litres of clean water per hour. The fountains operate through a hand pump.

They are capable of purifying the water from viruses, microbes and other impurities through the use of different filtration systems without relying on harmful chemicals and electric energy.

The UAE and Vietnam “share great determination and an unwavering resolve to promote innovative solutions,” said Dr Badr Al Matroushi, UAE Ambassador to Vietnam.

Beyond2020 Backing Zayed Sustainability Prize Winners And Finalists

Beyond2020 has already helped address water and food insecurity and health and energy challenges in 15 countries, including Egypt, Uganda, Nepal, Madagascar and the Philippines.

With the objective to go “beyond generations” and “beyond borders”, the initiative helps Zayed Sustainability Prize winners and finalists in their efforts to reach the vulnerable.

The prize recognises organisations in high schools that are delivering inspiring innovations in a number of different categories, including health, food, water, energy and climate action.
