UAE Ranks Among the Global Top 20 Countries for AI Talent

The United Arab Emirates has reached a new high, qualifying for the list of the top 20 countries in the world for AI talent in the most recent Global AI Competitiveness Index by the International Finance Forum (IFF) and Deep Knowledge Group. With 0.7% of the total global AI talent, the UAE outstripped established economies like Italy and Russia. This had a lot to do with the long-term initiatives that the government has been investing in, education focused on innovation, and a solid digital framework.

UAE’s Strategic Thought towards AI

The UAE Government made AI a key strategic priority, and in 2017, it became the first country to appoint a Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence. Since then, the government has been busy investing in various initiatives that will support its AI ecosystem. Some initiatives include:

• AI-centric universities and training programs to train their youth for future jobs.
• Investments in Smart Cities and AI startups to position the UAE as the innovation hub for the region.
• Public-Private partnerships to attract the most powerful global tech companies to establish research and innovation offices in the UAE.

As Dmitry Kaminskiy of Deep Knowledge Group explained, “The UAE is on track for leadership in AI governance and responsible innovation. UAE has already started setting a vision and focus, which gives them the ability to compete in the area of AI.”

Creating a Talented Workforce

UAE talent strategy includes:

1. Scholarships for degree programs in AI and tech
2. Coding programs for students and professionals
3. Support for Entrepreneurs in AI
4. This strategy is developing a strong talent pipeline and also bringing in talent from across the world.
