UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed is on an official trip to the US. He visited the Children’s National Hospital on Tuesday and received a briefing on the progress the facility has made in pediatric surgery and healthcare.
The UAE has been a longtime supporter of the hospital in the US and this visit by His Highness reflects a continuous commitment to enhancing the care provided to its young patients. The tour included visiting the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation.
UAE President checks innovations at Children’s National Hospital
Sheikh Mohamed met several senior officials and medical staff and visited specialist departments. The briefing included details on the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit Command Centre – a department employing sophisticated artificial intelligence techniques.
Besides meticulously monitoring patients to identify critical events, the Command Centre is also special as it lets surgeons and cardiologists provide telemedicine consultation to doctors across the globe, including at the UAE field hospital in Gaza.
The Gulf state has contributed $150 million to support the Children’s National Hospital over the years, establishing the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation, and another $30 million to establish the Research and Innovation Complex.
During the tour, His Highness also learned about the groundbreaking innovations being developed at the Sheikh Zayed Institute, such as a miniature pacemaker. The device has already been used in over 40 pediatric patients, including five infants.

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed also met Emirati patients receiving treatment at the Children’s National Hospital, talking to them and their families and checking on their progress. He emphasised his country’s commitment to safeguarding the health of its people.
The children and their families expressed their gratitude to His Highness for his visit and for the care they are receiving. The high-profile official trip to the US continues, focusing on other areas such as business, climate, foreign policy and space exploration.
