UAE mediation facilitates 10th Russia-Ukraine prisoner exchange in 2024

The UAE has announced the success of mediation efforts regarding the tenth Russia-Ukraine prisoner exchange this year, resulting in the release of 150 Russian prisoners and 150 Ukrainian prisoners, according to official media reports.

This has brought the total number of prisoners exchanged through UAE mediation efforts to 2,484. In December 2022, the Gulf state facilitated the exchange of a couple of prisoners among the US and the Russian Federation.

The UAE Foreign Ministry expressed its appreciation to both Russia and Ukraine for their cooperation to its mediation efforts. These exchanges reflect the position of the UAE as a reliable mediator globally.

Russia and Ukraine are also appreciating the UAE’s prominent role in supporting a diplomatic and peaceful path to address the crisis raging on since February 24, 2022. The success of the tenth prisoner exchange reflects the trust of Russia and Ukraine in the UAE.

The Ministry also reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to continuing all efforts aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine. The Gulf state is also supporting all efforts to mitigate the humanitarian repercussions resulting from the crisis.

UAE’s commitment to finding a peaceful solution

Since the beginning of 2024, the UAE’s mediation efforts have succeeded in completing ten Russia-Ukraine prisoner exchanges. In February, the Gulf state dispatched a plane carrying 55 tonnes of relief and medical supplies to help Ukrainians.

This represented the UAE’s continuous efforts to ensure relief and mitigate the humanitarian repercussions faced by the people of Ukraine as a result of the ongoing crisis. The plane carried portable electric generators, personal laptops, blankets and medical aid.
