India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar paid an official visit to the UAE on June 23. It comes after a recent meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed on the margins of the G7 Summit in Italy.
During the visit, the EAM and his UAE counterpart HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed held meticulous discussions in Abu Dhabi, reviewing the multi-faceted UAE-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and expressing happiness at the progress in diverse areas.
They explored both countries’ efforts to further strengthen joint cooperation in all sectors, including economic, trade, investment, education, culture, health, food security, clean energy and climate change, according to media reports.
Deepening UAE-India bilateral relations in focus
His Highness stressed that the UAE and India share a strong and strategic partnership, marked by growing momentum in bilateral cooperation. This collaboration is aimed at ensuring comprehensive development and sustainable economic prosperity, he added.
Launched in May 2022, the UAE-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (Cepa) has significantly boosted economic and trade cooperation in a way that supports the national development objectives of both countries, Sheikh Abdullah noted.
Dr S Jaishankar’s official visit to the UAE in just 15 days of his re-appointment as EAM highlights the deepening UAE-India relations. Since July 2023, PM Narendra Modi has visited the Gulf state three times and President Sheikh Mohamed has been in India twice.
S Jaishankar celebrates International Day of Yoga in UAE
During the one-day visit, the Indian EAM participated in the celebrations of the 10th International Day of Yoga at Louvre Museum in the capital city. The event – organised by the Embassy in partnership with Louvre Abu Dhabi – noted the presence of multiple nationalities.
S Jaishankar also visited the BAPS Hindu Mandir – inaugurated by the Indian Prime Minister on February 14 this year. He highlighted that the temple has become an iconic cultural destination in the UAE. In less than 4 months, the Mandir has received 1 million visitors.
During the meticulous discussions, HH Sheikh Abdullah and Dr Jaishankar explored areas for collaboration within international organisations, and also exchanged views on current regional and international developments, including the situation in the Middle East.
