The UAE has announced its support for the establishment of shelter centres for Palestinian refugees in Rafah, in renewed commitment to humanitarian efforts. The initiative seeks to provide a safe haven for the displaced people at the time of conflicts.
The situation in the besieged Gaza Strip has been increasingly dire. Scores of people are struggling to find secure and safe areas to stay. So far, Israeli strikes have claimed at least 20,915 lives and injured almost 55,000 others, as per the Gaza health ministry.
International Community’s Silence On Israel’s Actions?
The move by the Emirates has come as a beacon of hope for the population, offering services and a safer environment. Meanwhile, the Arab Parliament has called for a special session, raising concerns over the international community’s silence on Israel’s actions.
On the other hand, the US has been pressuring its ally, Israel, to minimise harm to civilians. But the Middle Eastern country’s military continues to assert new evidence connecting a north Gaza hospital to the dozens of hostages seized by the militants.
In a historical overview, Hamas militants launched a surprise attack on southern Gaza on October 7, killing roughly 1,140 people and triggering the ongoing violence. The Gaza ministry on Tuesday said 241 Palestinians had been killed in the past 24 hours.
Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has told lawmakers: “We are in a multi-front war and are coming under attack from seven theatres: Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Judea and Samaria (West Bank), Iraq, Yemen and Iran.”
Fears of Israel-Hamas War Triggering Regional Spillover
Gallant’s comments follow an Israeli airstrike in a Damascus neighbourhood on Monday reportedly killing Sayyed Razi Mousavi, a high-ranking Iranian general. The killing came amid ongoing fears of the Israel-Hamas war triggering a regional spillover.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society said a portion of the displaced population had been injured in artillery shelling that targeted the upper floors of the organisation’s headquarters in Khan Younis. Taking to X, it noted thousands of people are sheltering in the building.
