UAE Sends $10 Million in Aid to Colombia After Devastating Earthquake

The UAE has shipped a humanitarian aid package to Colombia, in response to the state of the country after an earthquake hit. The shipment is part of a UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s $10 million humanitarian aid package.

The most recent aid consists of food and hygiene products and cleaners, chosen based on the identification of needs by the authorities in Colombia in the communities in which the disaster has taken place. The UAE Aid Agency is supporting the response by coordinating with the Colombian Government to facilitate deliveries to communities in need.

$10 Million UAE Aid Package for Colombia

The UAE aid to Colombia in the earthquake was first announced in August when the event resulted in fatalities, injuries and massive property damage. The UAE has allocated USD10 million to assist in emergency relief and early recovery activities via the UAE Aid Agency.

The UAE has also recently received the new shipment, which is significant in its achievement of the UAE’s humanitarian commitment, Mr. Dr. Tareq Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, noted. Agency aid will be coordinated as the situation on the ground evolves,” it said.

Relief Supplies Procured Through Regional Cooperation

The new delivery illustrates regional logistics’ capability in humanitarian aid. The UAE says the food and hygiene and cleaning supplies were bought from Paraguayan local markets and then moved on to Colombia.

The agreement leverages Paraguay’s logistics capabilities and the region’s production capacity to facilitate prompt delivery and increase awareness among regional producers including Small and Medium Enterprises. UAE Ambassador to Paraguay His Excellency Ahmed bin Sahim Al Sanea also discussed the UAE’s cooperation in facilitating the relief supplies.

UAE and Colombia Coordinate on Recovery

Colombia aims to respond to the effects of the earthquake as well as to make every effort to assist the communities impacted by it. The UAE Aid Agency has now said that it will continue to coordinate with the authorities in Colombia to target assistance to where it is most needed.

Omar Bula, the Colombian Foreign Minister, praised the cooperation and friendship between Colombia and the UAE, crediting the sending of such assistance. Both governments declared the supply as another move towards the humanitarian pledge made following the quake.

From Emergency Relief to Rehabilitation
