These countries have pledged aid to Lebanon as crisis deepens

In the past handful of days, ongoing Israeli attacks on the Hezbollah group in Lebanon have already claimed more than 1,000 lives and injured 6,000 others to varying severities, according to the country’s health ministry.

The situation in Lebanon has been deteriorating, plunging a major portion of the Middle East into choas. On Saturday, Hezbollah confirmed its leader Hassan Nasrallah’s death, after Israel reported that it had “eliminated” the 64-year-old in a massive strike on south Beirut.

Nearly a million people in the country have already fled their homes seeking safety in other parts of Lebanon or in neighbouring Syria, taking shelter mostly in schools. Several countries have pledged or provided humanitarian aid to Lebanon as the crisis escalates.

Humanitarian aid to Lebanon amid Israel-Hezbollah tensions

1. UAE

UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed has directed the delivery of an urgent $100 million relief package to the people of Lebanon. It is part of the UAE’s unflinching commitment to assisting the Lebanese people during the current challenges.

2. EU

The European Union announced on Sunday €10 million in humanitarian aid to Lebanon to support the people in need there. The funding is intended to help provide food assistance, shelter, protection and healthcare.

3. France

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot visited Lebanon on Sunday to oversee a delivery of humanitarian aid. He said the supplies contained 12 tons of medical equipment to be used to treat 1,000 seriously injured people.

4. Egypt

On Sunday, the President of Egypt said he had ordered the immediate dispatch of emergency medical and humanitarian relief supplies to Lebanon. Speaking to Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, al-Sisi highlighted his country’s support for Lebanon on all levels.
