The spirit of humanitarian solidarity has become a constant feature of the UAE’s approach. The Gulf state celebrated its 53rd National Day, also called Eid al-Etihad, on December 2. Since 1971, the UAE has been putting efforts into humanitarian assistance.
In 2024, the UAE continued to lead in international humanitarian efforts, reaffirming its commitment to promoting the spirit of international solidarity in all its forms. Since its establishment until mid-2024, the UAE’s foreign aid amounted to Dh360 billion.
President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed has launched the Dh20 billion Erth Zayed Philanthropies, as part of the nation’s commitment to offering assistance to people in different places, thereby promoting security, stability and progress.
UAE continues its intense humanitarian presence globally
The UAE is one of the most generous donor countries across the globe. Recently, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed issued a federal decree to establish the UAE Aid Agency. It represents a continuation of the steadfast humanitarian legacy laid by the Founding Father.
The aid agency’s responsibilities include planning, executing and monitoring official government support, especially in the fields of disaster relief, recovery programmes, capacity building programmes, and post-conflict stabilisation.
The UAE continues its humanitarian presence in countries affected by natural disasters. The Gulf state has extended a helping hand to Burkina Faso, Brazil, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mauritania, Nepal, Cameroon, the Republic of Congo, and the Ivory Coast.
UAE offering urgent relief supplies to those in need
UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed has directed the provision of medical treatment for 1,000 injured children and 1,000 cancer patients from the Gaza Strip in the country’s hospitals. It is part of the UAE’s Operation ‘Gallant Knight 3’.
For Lebanon, His Highness has directed the delivery of an urgent $100 million relief package to the people of Lebanon. This highlights the UAE’s continuous efforts to support Lebanon through its current challenges.
Regarding Sudan, the UAE has pledged $100 million to support humanitarian efforts in Sudan and its neighbouring countries. The UAE Field Hospital in Gaza completed one year of serious life-saving operations earlier this month.
