As the UAE marks Emirati Women’s Day on August 28, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed took to X, previously known as Twitter, to pen a heartfelt tribute to the women within the borders. The day has come against a backdrop of enhanced women’s participation in decision-making.
Praising the women of the Emirates for illuminating the nation, the leader wished them a “Happy Emirati Women’s Day”, stressing: “Our journey is enriched by your presence, and the milestones of our progress echo your contributions.”
The theme for this year’s celebration, “We Collaborate for Tomorrow”, launched by The Mother of the Nation, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, is in line with the country’s 2023 theme “Today for Tomorrow” launched by the president.
UAE Issuing New Legislations To Enhance Gains Of Women
The UAE continues to top charts monitoring gender equality. It ranked 11th globally and first in the Arab world in the UNDP 2022 Gender Inequality Index (GII). The World Economic Forum 2022 Global Gender Gap Report also ranked it first among Arab countries.

The country has been delivering promising results on gender equality for multiple consecutive years, topping charts among countries of the Middle East and North Africa region. It has succeeded in enhancing women’s participation in political life and decision-making positions.
Over the past several years, the Emirati government has issued new legislations and legislative amendments for over a dozen legal articles concerning the areas of political participation, entrepreneurship, banking transactions, marriage, freedom of movement and several others.
