Bollywood superstar Ranbir Kapoor’s newly-released film ‘Animal’, also starring Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna and Tripti Dimri in pivotal roles, has not just set the Indian box-office on fire but also emerged as the Number 1 film globally.
The Sandeep Vanga Reddy-directorial released across 38 global territories on December 1. It has surpassed the likes of ‘The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes’ and ‘Napoleon’, raking in $42.1 million, according to data published by ComScore.
Intricate Father-Son Relationship
Like Reddy’s previous films, the Telugu-language ‘Arjun Reddy’ (2017) and its Hindi-language remake ‘Kabir Singh’ (2019), the latest project is a study in toxic masculinity. The film delves into the intricate father-son relationship between Ranbir and Anil’s characters.
Kapoor leads the narrative with intensity, portraying a character emotionally and physically challenged by his father, yet unwavering in seeking his validation. He plays the son of India’s richest man who takes on an antagonist played by Deol.
Team ‘Animal’ Take Over Dubai
Kapoor’s character has a complicated relationship with his parent in the film. But wife Alia Bhatt recently shed light in an interview on the relationship the actor shares with their daughter Raha Kapoor, noting “he is deeply, madly and truly in love with Raha.”
Last month, as the film’ release date approached, Kapoor flew out to Dubai along with Deol and producer Bhushan Kumar to screen the trailer at the iconic Burj Khalifa. A large crowd of Kapoor’s fans gathered to cheer the hero as the clip played on the tallest building.
Films Dominating Global Box-Office
Variety reported that the film’s global collection includes $6.1 million raked in North America where it was released across 850 locations and opened at Number 7. ‘Napoleon’, in second position, is playing in 63 markets and now has a global total of $137 million.
