Thousands of Emiratis, residents and volunteers turned out in force at aid events at Dubai Exhibition Centre and Cruise Terminal on Saturday and Sunday to pack essential supplies for people of Lebanon as they continue to suffer because of the conflict.
Huge number of volunteers joined the community-spirited initiative, titled Uae Stands ith Lebanon. These events started at 9 am on both days, luring people of diverse nationalities to support the country as it faces a humanitarian crisis.
More than 8,000 people helped at the events, packing 20,000 aid relief packages under the donation drive that continues until October 21. It comes as over 1.2 million people have been displaced in Lebanon and at least 2,000 are killed.

Lebanese ambassador Fouad Chehab Dandan expressed his gratitude to the Uae for its support, noting his admiration for the assistance. Speaking to The National, he hailed the solidarity from the Uae and the Lebanese community living there.
In a national effort, the Emirates Red Crescent has opened a number of donation centres on Friday in different locations such as Dubai, Ras al Khaimah and Fujairah. It is expected that nearly 10,000 tonnes of relief supplies can be sent to Lebanon soon.
The raging Middle East Crisis is making global headlines since last year. It started on October 7, 2023, as Hamas militants launched a surprise attack on Israel, killing and taking several people hostages. The Israeli military, in turn, has been continuing a massive operation.
