Kuwait Crown Prince Begins Official Visit to Switzerland After UNGA

Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, who attended the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, has landed in Switzerland on an official tour to visit Bern. The coming of his visit signals his departure from multilateral participation at the UN and his official bilateral talks with Switzerland.

On 27th September the Crown Prince and his official delegation arrived at Zurich International Airport. The Kuwaitis were received by the Ambassador of the Republic of Kuwait to Switzerland Yousef Ahmad Abdulsamad, the Assistant Foreign Minister for European Affairs Ambassador Najeeb Al-Bader, the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Kuwait to the UN and international organisations in Geneva Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen and members of the Kuwaiti diplomatic mission.

From UNGA Engagements to Switzerland

Sheikh Sabah Khaled was representing the Amir of Kuwait as the lead of the Kuwait delegation in the UN General Assembly high-level week before his journey to Switzerland. Kuwait’s Crown Prince held a number of diplomatic dialogues in New York regarding bilateral relations, regional and international developments.

The visit to Switzerland offers yet another forum for Kuwait to have face-to-face talks with the European partners. The two countries have diplomatic ties, and recently Kuwait’s Ambassador to Switzerland, Sheik Ahmed Al Saif, presented his credentials to President Guy Parmelin at the Federal Palace in Bern.

Focus on Kuwait-Switzerland Relations

As part of the official visit the Crown Prince will meet with Swiss authorities in Bern. The visit allows for discussion with the visitors, issues of bilateral relations and areas of cooperation with the Swiss Confederation.

The city of Geneva is also a major centre of international institutions and multilateral diplomacy in Switzerland. Kuwait has a permanent mission there represented by Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen who were present in Zurich to receive the Crown Prince.

Strengthening Diplomatic Engagement

The trip follows Kuwait’s high level diplomacy efforts to build a network of international relations. During the recent UNGA programme, the Crown Prince met with foreign leaders, and held discussions on bilateral cooperation and general international matters.

Accordingly, the arrival of his highness in Switzerland brings his diplomatic efforts beyond the scope of the UN General Assembly and focus is now on his contacts with the Swiss side and direct relationship between the two sides.
