Forbes Middle East has just announced its second annual list of the region’s sustainability leaders. This list recognises the people’s sustainability initiatives and innovations that have the potential to ensure a better future for all.
In total, Forbes recognised 107 leaders across 12 corporate sectors and 105 companies. The Uae ruled the list at 54 entries. Saudi Arabia came next at 20 entries, and Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman arrived next in the same order at 10, 8, 5 and 3 entries, respectively.
Middle East’s notable focus on sustainability
The Forbes Middle East Sustainability Leaders 2024 list conveniently highlights the fact that financial investments in sustainability initiatives have surged across organisations in the region, demonstrating a solidifying focus on environmentally responsible practices.
The Uae hosted the annual COP28 Summit at Expo City Dubai last year, convening thousands of participants. The event achieved early success on its first day itself as countries agreed to operationalise the Loss and Damage Fund to compensate for climate consequences.
Emirates NBD has paved the path for over $20.4 billion in green, social and sustainability-linked transactions since 2021. Besides that, earlier this year, the Emirati clean energy company Masdar acquired a 50% stake in US-based Terra-Gen.
Uae to host Forbes Sustainability Leaders Summit
The upcoming Forbes Middle East Sustainability Leaders Summit from October 17-18 is making global headlines lately. The Uae is all set to host the important event. It is set to be chaired by HE Thani al-Zeyoudi, the Minister of State for Foreign Trade.
The Summit plays a key role in enabling different private and public sector entities across the region to develop and adopt sustainable practices to save the planet. Yet the impact of the event extends beyond the region’s borders – helping the global community.
