Qatar to Hold 4-Nation Basketball Tournament from July 28

The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) is hosting a four nation International Friendly Basketball Tournament from July 28 to August 1 at the Lusail Multipurpose Hall. The competition will feature four of the best Asian teams, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Japan, and Iraq, in preparation for the upcoming 31st FIBA Asia Cup, which will be held from August 5 to 17 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

This tournament will be the last for Qatar in preparation of the FIBA Asia Cup, following a rigorous training camp in Turkiye, Doha, and South Korea. The tournament will allow Qatar to test the technical and physical preparation of the national team against regional competitors. Qatar’s squad will be led by Head Coach Hakan Demir, a Turkish veteran of the sport and basketball tactician, looking to give fans a taste of the application of his plans for the Asia Cup.

The tournament will kick off with Qatar vs Saudi Arabia at 1:00 PM on July 28, followed by Qatar v Japan on July 30 at 5:00 PM, with Iraq vs Saudi Arabia at 7:00 PM. The tournament ends on August 1 with Saudi Arabia vs. Japan at 5:00 PM, while Qatar faces Iraq at 7:00 PM.

The Qatar roster has several local talents such as Omar Mohammed Saad, Abdulrahman Saad, Ahmed Saeed Mohammed, and also international players such as Tyler James Lee, Brandon Goodwin, and Alen Hadzibegovic, representing a good balance of local and international talents. Qatar clearly intends on using this tournament to develop their form and improve their chemistry.
